**LIVE FROM THE STREET**

Join Tuscany expert Elizabeth Namack for a virtual presentation via Zoom to explore the medieval village of San Gimignano. You’ll also get to meet our special guest Angelica Turi, a licensed environmental guide.  She will walk LIVE around the town, enjoying a stroll along the quaint alleys to reach a lookout with truly breath-taking views.

Already a powerful community in the 1100s, San Gimignano became famous for its daring towers built to symbolize the wealth of the town and its merchants. Situated along the busy French road that connected the north part of Europe to Rome and the Adriatic Sea, San Gimignano profited economically from the constant flow of goods, textiles, wine and saffron (once worth much more than its weight in gold!) that traveled along that medieval “freeway”.

We will discover the church of Saint Augustine, which was once part of a larger monastic complex, along with the striking Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, before reaching the ancient fortress that is now a public garden.

Given that entry is not currently permitted in many buildings, we will discover virtually some of the artistic treasures housed inside.

This is event is free of charge, however donations are happily accepted and encouraged.

The virtual presentation will last about 1 hour with time at the end for questions and answers.

I look forward to seeing you as we step back in time to discuss Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture!
